Rigid Shelter
A prototype for a rigid, collapsible, deployable origami shelter, combining methods used by Hoberman Spheres, Miura origami folds used in deployable satellite design, and umbrellas. We wrote a MATLAB script to perform angle and length calculations for our crease pattern. As a proof of concept, we constructed a 1 meter diameter shelter using acrylic and vinyl.
